Letter from Cathy Lapointe

February 16, 2005

Dear Friends,

I want to convey how much I appreciate the support this community once again shows to me and my family. The prayers for Theresa's recovery are being answered. Her progress couldn't be going any better and the outlook for her future is positive. We have to remember that it will take time, but have faith that the girl we know is trying her hardest to get back to us.

Theresa's room includes a computer hooked up to her website. The website is giving everyone who is working with Theresa a look at who she is and how much she is loved.

The nurses, doctors, counselors and other patients' families — anyone who comes to check on her progress — all comment on how helpful it is to them to get a "picture" of this lovely girl. Everyone's messages, from the words posted on the website to the hearts taped to the wall in her room, are helping all of us to stay positive. Even in my quiet time alone with her, all I have to do is look at the computer monitor and know that we are not alone.

Love,

Cathy

Theresa’s Progress February 19, 2005

Our wonderful Theresa is still asleep, but doing well.

She is daily passing her tests, (brain scans, CAT scans, pressure tests, MRI’s, blood pressure, heart-beat monitoring, and blood tests) – all with flying colors. We are very proud of her! She will also be very pleased with her SAT score that arrived in the mail today.

Although still unconscious, she sits up in a chair for a bit each day, and squeezes back if you squeeze her hand. Many of the tubes are gone and her pretty mouth is uncluttered and ready to smile when she decides to do so.

There is a “Wall of Red Hearts” on the left of her bed covered with greetings from her friends. They are full of love and promises of prayers. I am a little concerned by a few that are signed by boys I don’t know, that say things like “Hey Babe, Get well, I love you!” (Theresa, you and I have to have a little chat!) One teacher has sent her an unlimited Tardy pass and her Latin Teacher has threatened to have her conjugate 100 irregular verbs if she doesn’t “get well fast!”

Prayers are being offered for Theresa in dozens of homes, classrooms, synagogues, and churches around Frederick and around the country. We learned also that “Theresa” prayers are being recited in a Mosque in Amman, Jordan and in a Basilica in Montreal, Canada. If God wasn’t paying attention to Theresa last week, her picture is popping up every second on HIS computer screen this week!

Friends from Texas sent Theresa a bunch of beautiful yellow daisies yesterday. Yellow is the color of Hope and Growth.

How appropriate!

Archie
